About Firelight Labyrinth

What is Firelight Labyrinth?

As a part of Firelight Festival, Firelight Labyrinth is an immersive multimedia experience set beneath Marvel Stadium. This experience is a world premiere using production technology not seen before in Australia.

Moving through three distinct rooms, this labyrinth of light tells a modern version of the mythology of Theseus and the Minotaur. Using cutting-edge technology, dynamic audio, and an astonishing array of over 144,000 lights, Firelight Labyrinth leads visitors on the journey with Theseus, following his descent into the labyrinth and his ensuing battle with the Minotaur.

When and where is it?

Firelight Labyrinth is located at Marvel Stadium, Docklands and is open from 10am to 10pm daily, from Friday 28 June to Sunday 14 July 2024.

Tickets are available in entry timed sessions every 15 minutes. Last entry is 45 minutes before closure. All times are subject to change.

Who is the event suitable for?

Firelight Labyrinth is suitable for a wide range of age groups to enjoy, however, please be advised that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Customer discretion is advised when purchasing tickets for those who may not be comfortable amidst an immersive, high-volume experience. Some of the lighting sequences will include flashing, flickering and patterned effects, as well as strobe effects. Smoke and haze effects may be used in some areas. Low sensory sessions will be available – see below.

How much time should we allow for this event?

You should allow for 45–60 minutes to ensure enough time to fully enjoy the experience.

Ticketing

Do I need to book tickets for Firelight Labyrinth?

Yes, this is a ticketed experience and each timed entry session has a limited capacity. We recommend booking online in advance to avoid disappointment.

When do tickets go on sale?

The presale open to What’s On newsletter subscribers, Ticketmaster members and AFL members begins at 10am, Wednesday 1 May 2024. If you’d like to access the presale today, please email marketing@melbourne.vic.gov.au.

General tickets will be on sale from 10am, Thursday 2 May 2024.

Will more tickets become available?

Additional tickets to weekend sessions will become available once the AFL match fixture at Marvel Stadium is finalised in May. Stay tuned for more announcements!

How can I purchase tickets?

Tickets for Firelight Labyrinth are available through our official ticketing partner Ticketmaster. Tickets purchases from any unauthorised third party may be invalid and you will be refused entry.

What are the ticket prices?

General Admission: $37.50
Child (4–13 years): $22
Family of 4: $115 (minimum 2 children)
Children 3 years and under: Free

Transaction fee applies.

Do you accept Companion Cards?

Yes, holders of a government issued Companion Card can access a free ticket for their companion or carer.

Companion Card tickets can be booked via Ticketmaster by calling 1300 446 925 or via online form. Proof of eligibility will be required during booking.

Can I exchange or refund my ticket?

Please check and confirm the date and session time carefully before purchase. Once bookings are confirmed, refunds or exchanges are not possible for change of mind or personal reasons.

What happens if I miss my session?

We will attempt to accommodate you in the next available session on the same day, however entry cannot be guaranteed. During peak times you may be required to wait for the next available session.

Will there be any low sensory or relaxed sessions?

Low sensory or ‘relaxed’ sessions are for anyone who would benefit from experiencing the event in a more relaxed environment. This can include, but is not limited to, people with autism, sensory sensitivities, Tourette’s syndrome, learning disabilities or dementia, as well as people living with mobility challenges, anxiety or people who have experienced trauma.

Low sensory sessions will take place on the below dates and will include approximately 1 hour of relaxed programming:

6pm, Tuesday 9 July

Planning your visit

What time should I arrive for my session?

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your session to ensure you have adequate time to park in the area and find your way to the entrance gate. Session start times are to be strictly observed. Visitors who arrive more than five minutes after the start time may not be admitted to the exhibition.

Should you miss your scheduled time, we will endeavour to accommodate you if a subsequent spot is available. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a rescheduled visit.

Where do I go for my session?

The entrance to Firelight Labyrinth is through Gate 1 on Marvel Stadium concourse (Stadium Square) in Docklands. On arrival, tickets will be scanned outside the gate and you will be directed by a steward to the entrance.

What public transport options are available?

Southern Cross Station is located adjacent to Marvel Stadium with stops for both V-line and Metropolitan train lines. It is a short walk across the Spencer Street/Bourke Street pedestrian footbridge.

Trams 30, 35, 70, 75 and 86 run to Marvel Stadium via La Trobe Street and Harbour Esplanade. Please note due to event road closures during Firelight Festival, trams 35, 70 and 75 will stop at the Flinders West stop rather than running through Harbour Esplanade from 3.30pm each day from 28 to 30 June.

Trams 11, 48 and 96 also stop in the CBD on Spencer Street, Bourke Street and Collins Street, and all are a short walk to Marvel Stadium.

Coming from the Bellarine Peninsula? Take the ferry from Geelong or Portarlington direct to Docklands.

Is there parking available?

Paid parking is available at Marvel Stadium. For more information please visit Marvel Stadium’s parking information page.

Alternatively, there is limited paid on-street parking in the Docklands area on Harbour Esplanade, Bourke Street and Docklands Drive.

Please note the following road closures will be in effect during Firelight Festival from Friday 28 June to Sunday 30 June, between 4pm and midnight:
– Harbour Esplanade will be closed between Bourke Street and La Trobe Street (northbound and southbound)
– Merchant Street will be closed from Bourke Street.

What items are prohibited?

Please note that Marvel Stadium reserves the right to inspect any bag and/or article of clothing for any prohibited items. Please visit Marvel Stadium’s conditions of entry page for a full list of conditions.

Will there be any strobe/flash lighting or smoke effects used?

Haze and smoke effects will be used as part of the experience. Bright immersive lighting and lighting sequences including pulsing, flashing, flickering and patterned effects, and strobe effects will also be utilised. The experience will include loud audio.

Is a cloakroom available?

Please see staff at the Customer Service Desk at Level 1, Aisle 3 (Gate 1) for cloaking.

Are strollers allowed?

While strollers are allowed within Firelight Labyrinth, it is recommended you cloak strollers during your visit. Please see staff at the Customer Service Desk at Level 1, Aisle 3 (Gate 1) for cloaking.

What happens to lost property?

For lost property enquiries post-event, please contact the security team at Service Entry, 740 Bourke Street, Docklands (open 24/7) or via phone on 03 8625 7239.

Will food and drinks be available?

While no food and drink will be available within the event space, Stadium Square at Marvel Stadium has plenty of catering options to enjoy before or after your visit to Firelight Labyrinth. Discover more food and drink ideas in the Docklands precinct via What’s On Melbourne.

Will there be seating available?

Please note that there is no seating available within Firelight Labyrinth. Walkers and small portable chairs are allowed within the experience. If you need any mobility assistance, please speak to one of our friendly customer service staff for support.

Are there restrooms?

There are no restrooms available within Firelight Labyrinth, however Stadium Square has access to toilets to use before and after your session time. If you require the restroom during your session, please speak to one of our friendly staff who will issue you a pass out, which will allow you to get back into the experience on return.

Are pets allowed?

No pets are allowed, except for service animals. However, please note that Firelight Labyrinth is filled with stimulus that could upset animals. There will be flashing lights, loud noises and many people.
